Assemblymember Harabedian Statement on Release of Los Angeles County Fire Department Eaton Fire Investigation
(Altadena, CA) – Today, the Los Angeles County Fire Department released its investigation report on the Eaton Fire, providing findings on the origin and cause of the devastating wildfire that impacted thousands of Altadena residents.
Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena), who represents Altadena and serves as Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, released the following statement:
“I want to thank the Los Angeles County Fire Department investigators, first responders, and all who worked tirelessly to complete this investigation and provide the Altadena community with answers. Transparency after a tragedy of this magnitude requires a collective effort, and every person and agency involved plays an important role in making that possible.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Eaton Fire investigation report provides critical findings on the origin and cause of the fire, including the role of a Southern California Edison transmission tower. Southern California Edison must take responsibility for its role and fully cooperate with all ongoing reviews and investigations.
But this report is one part of a broader effort to understand what happened and what must change going forward.
As Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, I am closely following the independent review I pushed for, which is now being conducted by the State Auditor. Independent oversight and a thorough examination of the facts are essential to ensuring Altadena residents receive the answers they are owed. We owe it to them to follow the facts and take meaningful action to better protect communities across California.”
