Over the past two years, my office has focused on three priorities: helping Eaton Fire survivors recover, securing state investments for our communities, and making government work more effectively for Californians.
From wildfire recovery legislation to local infrastructure funding, here is a look at the work accomplished during my first two years representing the 41st Assembly District.
Wildfire Recovery and Support for Eaton Fire Survivors
Supporting Eaton Fire survivors and helping Altadena rebuild have been central priorities of my work in the Legislature. Working alongside survivors, local organizations, and community leaders, we advanced legislation and secured funding to address immediate needs and longer-term recovery.
Key accomplishments include:
- Mortgage relief for wildfire survivors: Authored AB 238 and AB 1847 to provide mortgage forbearance protections for eligible homeowners affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires, including additional relief for qualifying survivors.
- First-in-the-nation smoke damage standards: Authored AB 1642, establishing statewide standards for smoke damage assessment, testing, and remediation following wildfires.
- Insurance protections: Advanced AB 2038 to establish a temporary moratorium on certain insurance nonrenewals in and near wildfire-affected areas.
- Altadena recovery investments: Secured $15 million in state funding for community land trusts, rebuilding assistance, and anti-displacement efforts.
- $3.6 million to keep the Altadena Library District running and provide essential services during the Eaton Fire’s financial and operational recovery.
- $4 million to the Foothill Municipal Water District (FMWD) to help rebuild Altadena’s water system damaged by the Eaton Fire.
- Altadena parks: Secured $21.7 million for the restoration and rebuilding of Altadena parks.
- Eaton Fire audit: As Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, initiated an audit examining wildfire prevention and emergency response efforts surrounding the Eaton Fire. The audit is intended to identify failures, improve accountability, and inform future prevention and response efforts.
Investing in Local Infrastructure and Public Services
State funding plays an important role in helping local governments maintain essential services, improve infrastructure, and address community needs. We worked with local partners to bring state resources back to the district.
Key investments include:
- Hesperia: More than $1 million for stormwater infrastructure repairs.
- Upland: $2 million for the public library and a new emergency response center.
- Public lands: $3.5 million for conservation efforts.
Making Government More Effective and Representative
I also worked on legislation to reduce unnecessary administrative barriers, improve how public projects are delivered, and make state government more responsive to California's diverse communities.
Legislative accomplishments include:
- AB 1786: Expanded the ability of local governments to use best-value contracting, giving jurisdictions more flexibility when selecting contractors for public projects.
- AB 2058: Reduced regulatory barriers for cost-effective factory-built housing.
- AB 91: Required California to collect data on the needs of Middle Eastern and North African communities, helping inform future state policies and services.
Looking Ahead
The work of representing the 41st Assembly District continues. I will remain focused on wildfire recovery, local infrastructure, public safety, and delivering practical solutions to the challenges facing our communities.
