Asm. Harabedian is Clearing the Path for Faster and More Affordable Housing
(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assembly Bill 2058, authored by Assemblymember John Harabedian (D - Pasadena), was approved by the Senate Housing Committee.
California continues to face a housing shortage that affects renters and homeowners across every region of the state. Even when housing policy focuses on increasing supply, projects can still be delayed by inefficient procedures that add time and expense at multiple stages of development.
AB 2058 streamlines the review and approval process for factory-built housing, which consists of housing units and building components constructed in a factory setting. Factory-built housing offers a faster and more cost-effective way to build homes, helping address California’s housing shortage. By reducing delays caused by duplicative requirements, simplifying approvals, and lowering unnecessary costs that can slow construction, AB 2058 will accelerate housing production while maintaining all existing safety and quality standards.
“Families across California are feeling the pressure of rising housing costs every day. When the system creates delays or adds unnecessary steps, those costs increase. AB 2058 streamlines the housing approval process so we can build more homes, bring them online faster, and give people a real chance at stability in the communities they call home,” said Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena)
This measure now moves forward for a vote in Senate Appropriations.
